Why can't my necklaces look like the picture?

After my first attempt at the necklace, I then found this one!

So then it was attempted:

Not quite as bad as the first one, but it says to measure it out and I kinda skipped that step because well I have a hard time being perfect and I'm also lazy! 

Maybe the next one will be better!
